Project Details

Tasked with exploring ways to increase healthy and efficient housing options in a land-scarce city, Pirie Associates worked with a municipal partner to develop an infill approach to create affordable home ownership options while protecting existing neighborhood character and scale. These neighborhood sensitive infill developments, which we call 'Small Healthy Homes' are differentiated from "tiny homes" or "ADU"s as a unique dwelling typology focused on high performance to reduce operating costs and healthy materials to support occupant wellbeing. Developed to democratize design and construction and ease permitting, the units are simple, thoughtful and open-ended with options which can be deployed in a variety of ways on sliver lots or other open sites.

Small Healthy Homes have full-sized kitchens, living areas, bathrooms,  are compatible with loft, basement, or deck/patio options, will be permit-ready, and are designed to be net zero ready on day one.
